International classification of goods and services for the registration of marks (NICE)

A trademark is used to identify goods or services in the marketplace, helping to differentiate them and preventing consumer confusion. To facilitate the identification of these products and services, INAPI uses the international classification of goods and services (Nice).

The Nice Classification is a system of classifying goods and services for the purpose of registering trademarks. The latest 9th version of the system groups products into 45 classes (classes 1-34 include goods and classes 35-45 include services). Many trademark offices around the world use this classification.

Since September 1, 2010 INAPI is using the 9th version of this international classification.
